Are more and more people forgetting that the capital 'G' makes 'God' a proper noun, like 'Fred' ?

I'm not a huge fan of calling the Christian deity 'God' and every other god a 'god' but hey, that's English. It sucks. So, please stop saying things like 'a God'. Thanks! :)
